Fourteenth Amendment

Who gets a seat, Chuck Schumer gets to choose;
our Senate bars sedition from its hall.
He's going nowhere while he bears Ted Cruz,
but it's not clear to all he's got the balls.
The Fourteenth purged Lee's clique from government
ineligible to their dying day.
All senators must know the precedent
once ratified, such bans don't fade away.
What Chuck will do's much less than what he'd like
he tends towards somnolence, more than to haste.
Ted's head should grace our Congress on a pike
an honest Texan ought to hold his place.
Unceasing vigilance is Freedom's cost;
if Schumer waffles here, the moment's lost.

Sedition

Impeachment time! McConnell's all upset
Republicans may have to take a stand.
This time, the voting public won't forget;
of all their ilk, Murkowski's the best man.
Their oaths of office bound them to defend
the constitution from all enemies.
Push comes to shove, here at the shitshow's end.
Just Cruz and Hawley take it on their knees.
Twin enemies of the Enlightenment
grasp power any sleazy way they can.
This week, they're overthrowing government
because such choices don't belong to Man.
This vulgar gangster they had hoped to use
now makes them squirm, as they're obliged to choose.

El Paso

Ted Cruz is up in arms; Trump crossed a line
imputing Texans ain't all of his class.
El Paso's victims ought not be maligned
but such a stubby-fingered orange ass.
The Brandenburg Test leaves a lot of space
within the code, it's legal to incite
deplorables to wage a war on race...
as long as they don't fire that shot tonight.
O'Rourke's campaign looked moribund, or dead
until these shootings fluffed his stock, a bit.
He sure looks upright next to lying Ted
the Cuban version of robotic Mitt.
A party with no room for an adult
is now a xenophobic, fascist cult.

push-back

Ted Cruz is up in arms; Trump crossed a line
imputing Texans ain't all of his class.
El Paso's victims ought not be maligned
but such a stubby-fingered orange ass.
Alberta's Senator saw a hot mic
a vacancy his ego can't abide.
Although he's not the sort a Texan'd like
he'd be a fool to not stroke their fierce pride.
Abe Lincoln's party's gotten commandeered;
no principles are left for which it stands.
The "factions" that our Founding Fathers feared

gave awesome powers to this awful man.
A party with no room for an adult
is now a xenophobic, fascist cult.

blue-shift

Ted Cruz was seated as an irritant
big Red thumb in Obama's Purple eye.
His re-election's not self-evident;
real Texans have sound cause to wonder why.
Two Ivy League degrees say he's a Yank
stray bulldog in their longhorn cavalcade.
A carpetbagger pulling a bad prank
they're not amused by Rafa's masquerade.
First, Alabama jettisoned Roy Moore,
now Texans poise to see the last of Ted
six years of whining get to be a bore
the LoneStar's shifting Blue, that gleamed so Red.
Joe Manchin may still sell his coal-black soul.
But--'til he does--McConnell's lost control.

grab-bag

Ted Cruz snuck fetal personhood aboard
outrageous subterfuge by dark of night
no proper piece of any tax accord
but meat to his supporters on the Right.
McConnell's bill--unread--came to the floor
the lobbyists who wrote it stayed off-screen.
A party loyal to the Mercers' whore

fell into line for what they'd never seen.
Murkowski, Flake, and Collins each got bought
to reach the reconciliation round.
The scraps of pork that they'd so fondly sought
can't fix a bill so radically unsound.
Our nation's future's underneath the ax
to spare the Kochs a piddling bit of tax.

machinations

Who knows what Kellyanne believes at heart?
She'll advocate for Mercer's darkest whim.

To practice law, one has to play the part
and Robert's hired her mouth to speak for him.
Sincerity's the key in politics
for which a frontman's weighed, and bought, and sold.
The public hated Spicer's nervous tics.
When you can fake sincerity, you're gold!
Not long ago, she would have sold us Cruz
dissecting Trump the grifter that he is.
But Mercer calculated Ted must lose
And Donald fitted better with his biz.
A useful puppet, cloaking Mercer's hand
sings hymns to Trump--until Pence gets her canned.

not likable enough

each day he wakes, each morning it's the same
his highest talent's to alienate
without a friend or ally to his name
the senate rallies against him in hate
strange herald for God's kingdom here on Earth
unbending to the rulings of our courts
unlooked for--a Canadian by birth--
he'd be more charming if he had more warts
the party's factions exploding apart
without a centre competent to hold
two candidates with not a single heart
whose only value shared is lust for gold
unless the GOP's intent to lose
it's futile to close ranks behind Ted Cruz

unlikely bedfellows

"to copulate with [Trump]" can't turn Ted's crank
if we believe his statements to the Press
to share a bed seems harder than to wank
and either way, there's bound to be a mess
where Ted comes from, they don't boast trophy wives
they borrow what they need in the igloo
Canadians share all within their hives
and sneer at what our One Percenters do
devoid of substance, it's a schoolyard brawl
and none's the wiser after such debate
instead of honey, Ted's tongue drips with gall
the only value shared is that of hate
"BrokeBack" explored bedfellows on the range
but couldn't touch these two for passing strange

brotherhood of hate

"close ranks!" Jeb bleats "we've got to back Ted Cruz!"
if Trump is not to hold us by the throat
that orange ape could find a way to lose
to Hillary if put to a fair vote
contested Senate seats could fall away
and Mitch could lose the chair he holds so dear
when states we thought were "safe" go back in play
if our slate's headed by this derriere
the lesser of two evils must be Ted
who's deferential to our donor class
to make this realtor our party's head
would be to show our over-lords our ass
he's not so bad (if you ignore his lies)
at least we all agree whom we despise

internecine

a two-man race pits Trump against Ted Cruz
Republican OldGuard writhes in distress
with either one, their party's apt to lose
and leave them howling in the wilderness
obstructionism brought them to this pass
when voters grasped that no one's got their back
they pledged allegiance to the braying ass
and snubbed the latest Bush heir off the rack
the delegates are pledged for just one round
and then the backroom dealings can begin
they'd rally to a mongrel from the pound
before they'd let these two they so loathe win
the constellations whirl and rearrange
aligning for the Sanders bid and CHANGE

kingdom coming

Dominionists align behind Ted Cruz
who mean to rule God's kingdom here on earth
they'll make no room for Muslims, Sikhs or Jews
who don't accord to Jesus his full worth
at once divine and human in one flesh
a paradigm for how their logic fails
when facts and prejudice demur to mesh
they swallow hook and line from Roger Ailes
their incoherent slogans are unfurled
while mainstream Christians tear their hair and grieve
since Jesus claimed no kingdom in this world
it's hard to puzzle out what they believe
a Holy War on arcane points of creeds
just doesn't seem like what our Country needs

boxed

Republicans don't have a lot to choose
if Trump won't be the headline on their slate
but no one's rushing to embrace Ted Cruz
this race seems lost before they've left the gate
Dominionists don't feel bound by the laws
when Revelation tugs another way
but Fascists--once they've got us in their claws--
may scoff at what their candidate may say
how Lincoln's party came to such a turn
how to define a kernel we might save
when Gingrich damned it all to stall and burn
has honest Abe back-flipping in his grave
between the Devil and the deep blue Sea
McConnell's second-thinking Hillary

My kingdom is not of this world

dominionists believed the time was right
to take the reins of power in their hand
to cast off piety and rule by might
to claim the highest office in the land
their chosen Joshua had been Ted Cruz
reliant on strange charms not of this world
their faith's unshaken 'though he had to lose
and couldn't buy a smile from his own girl
the eyes of Faith saw what no others can
the rest of us recoiled at his shrill voice
and wouldn't dream of voting for their man
'though Lucifer were made the only choice
his party's rout would have been on his head
Americans love Jesus, but not Ted

marketing

TransRectal UltraSound makes voters cringe
its acronym repels both Blue and Red
a candidate from way beyond the fringe
went with a logo that links TRUS with TED
"tin ear"'s too faint a term for such a gaffe
from a campaign aspiring to our trust
at best,  evokes uncomfortable laughs
more likely, it forebodes his bid's a bust
who chose the senator's inapt design
were they sincerely working for the creep
it's totally ok for one to whine
the image strikes uncomfortably deep
Joe Voter would be wise to take a pass
on candidates so keen on up-the-ass

getting a head

Bill Rehnquist loved Ted Cruz as his law clerk
fresh out of LawSchool and eager to please
'though everyone acknowledged he's a jerk
he started every morning on his knees
a clever tongue for arguing the law
found other uses in the judge's bed
and no gag-reflex guarding his tight craw
empowered Ted to give exquisite head
the senator from Texas has no friend
but as a Christian he's learned to act meek
the ones he loves will love him in the end
because he's learned to turn the nether cheek
he scored the clerkship in his Law School crop
insisting that the Justice be on top

perfect couple

the face of God appeared to Heidi Cruz
and so--the bible says--she should be dead
but since that left her nothing left to lose
she took the noxious little creep to bed
it's trite, I know, to say that "love is blind"
and politicians' kin are not fair game
but clinic'ly the dame's out of her mind
and Ted can't be entirely to blame
for ev'ry soul, there's someone in the world
and some are satisfied to mate in haste
so maybe creepy Ted found the right girl
there's no accounting for a woman's taste
judge Rehnquist found him clever as a clerk
but those who know Ted best know he's a jerk

mob start

the Trump machine has foundered in the snow
a bitter kick-off with which to begin
we look to Iowa for how things go
and see the Donald's unlikely to win
"who's credible" depends on whom you ask
in all the world, Ted Cruz ain't got a friend
the voters face a procrustean task
but have to opt for someone in the end
who stands to gain as leaders drop away
who'll be the winner and who'll be the goat
the Party's splintered, everyone's in play
but few can be relied upon to vote
a dozen losers each claim Reagan's base
but none has shown the legs for Bernie's pace

infighting

Ben Carson warned Ted Cruz "I'm not dead yet"
and won't endorse you if I feel coerced

his prospects seem an ever-longer bet
since in a field of ten, he came out worst
the back-room boys recruited a dark face
to show the GOP has got some chops
but Democrats score double points on race
each time a teenaged boy gets shot by cops
his hope of winning always  seemed forlorn
especially as Iowa's so White
he's voiced no policies on soy or corn
that would endear him to the Christian Right
a surgeon running on untested track
would go unnoticed if he weren't Black

bad and worse

Jeb slings his war-chest 'round to make a splash
but Iowans are not looking impressed
although he makes it rain with donors' cash
he's not the candidate they rate the best
instead, they cheer for the Canadian
although his documents are kinda odd
he's got no friends besides his dog and gun
but claims he'll lead our nation back to God
the GOP dissolves in disarray
they hate the Congress and Obama more
determined to let bankers have their way
and Devil take the bulk of working poor
the rolls shrink for Republicans as such
'cause no one likes these options very much
