they're only playing at the argument

if you aspire to make the slightest dent
reality's too narrow for their man
who's quick to play a trick or subterfuge
in service to an ego truly grand
he's got to spin a fantasy that's huge
republics need a frank exchange of thought
from which to deal and swap and compromise
a grand experiment that comes to naught
if citizens are satisfied with lies
a demagogue enamored of the crowd
who deem he must be bright just 'cause he's loud
