motives

king Menelaos waged war for his wife
and called up men of Greece to press his case
for then years the Aegean's wracked with strife
to save one cuckold from this loss of face
no vow obliged Achilles to this fight
he's not susceptible to Helen's charms
if others thought like him, there'd be no plight
unless they're caught in Patrokles' arms
blind Homer knew it's not for cause and king
but rather for the friends who share their Hell
that soldiers stake their lives and everything
if die they must, they'll be remembered well
the hero fights for buddies, not for flag
avenging him who'd shared his sleeping bag
