instead of sketches of our better selves
ad-hominem attacks have laid all waste
to sell their visions of competing Hells
by contrast, Lyndon Johnson seems a sage
he merely tortured puppies on a lark
but now, we face the orange clown of rage
who loves Americans--unless we're dark
Enlightenment experiment gone mad
the demagogue our Founding Fathers feared
evokes a Golden Age we never had
while preaching Mussolini's platform here
democracy's forever on the brink
'cause citizens think it's too hard to think
