each species shambles towards its proper form
not dwindling as it creeps out on a limb
approaching--not forsaking--the set norm

mere change need not appear a cause for dread
as long as it is not pursued too fast
perfection's realized somewhere ahead
not lost forever in the hoary past

all hope for something better's not in vain
and stasis need not be the State's ideal
we aren't doomed to eddy down the drain
for trying to improve the commonweal

a better world need not be fantasy
