the States were plural when our Founders wrote
the Second Amendment to guarantee
although we've joined our fortunes in one boat
components--on the balance--would stay free
demobilized from Washington's ground force
each citizen went home and took his gun
and later entertained pangs of remorse
that out of thirteen States, they had wrought one
disaggregated militias dispersed
'though they could be called up at later date
to feed a standing army seemed far worse
than leaving militaries to each State
and so, control of arms spawns endless fights
'cause so few understand our basic rights
