no lightning bolt laid Paris out stone dead
for running off with his host's pretty wife
'though Zeus pronounced death sentence on his head
exacting justice cost Achilles' life
to Homer, gods may motivate the fact
instilling what's bad or good in our minds
but still it's we as humans who must act
society's the project for mankind
in his world, no case ever went to court
'til Aeschylus we're jury and we're judge
from crime to punishment the circuit's short
exacting payment for each tort and grudge
a nasty brutish short life was Man's fate
until we joined up to erect the State
