tempus fugit

ground features shrink, my vario's voice sings
and solar heat's my partner in this dance
to seize the day on temporary wings
I'd be an ingrate to turn down the chance
since Daedelus or Leonardo's day
we've dreamed of getting free from mother earth
and our own generation's found a way
to seize Sol's gifts for everything they're worth
all flights must end here in gravity's well
the days of our delight are all too short
yet we can stretch and fill our little cell
with the stuff of a glorious report
the end's foretold; all who are born must die
but on the way the few will learn to fly
